J.K. Dobbins Out for the Season

The Baltimore Ravens’ starting running back, J.K. Dobbins, suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during the team’s Week 1 victory over the Houston Texans.

Dobbins had previously missed 27 games during his first three seasons and was working hard to bounce back from a season-ending preseason knee injury in 2021. The Ravens will now have to rely on their other running backs, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill, to fill the void left by Dobbins.

Week 1 Performance of Gus Edwards and Justice Hill

After Dobbins left the game, Gus Edwards registered eight carries for 32 yards and was not targeted in the pass game. He also converted a two-point conversion in the third quarter.

On the other hand, Justice Hill tallied nine rushing yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. Hill scored both of his rushing touchdowns on two-yard runs in the third quarter. With Dobbins out for the season, both Edwards and Hill are expected to see additional touches in the upcoming games.

Background of Gus Edwards and Justice Hill

Gus Edwards, born on April 13, 1995, is a Liberian American football running back for the Baltimore Ravens. He played college football at Miami (FL) before transferring to Rutgers and signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

Edwards is known for his large size and “bruising” running style, earning him the nickname “Gus Bus”. He attended Tottenville High School in Staten Island, New York, before playing college football.

Justice Hill was a fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma State in 2019. Before this season, he had a total of 119 carries on his NFL resume, never having more than 10 in a single game. Hill is expected to get more work in the Ravens’ offense following Dobbins’ injury.

Gus Edwards vs Justice Hill

Both Gus Edwards and Justice Hill have the potential to contribute significantly to the Ravens’ offense in the absence of J.K. Dobbins.

Edwards is likely to lead the team in carries, but only with a slight edge over Hill, who will be used more in passing situations. Fantasy football managers should keep an eye on both players, as their roles in the Ravens’ backfield could evolve throughout the season.

Update: Ravens have also added Melvin Gordon to their active roster, he may also take away a few carries this season.
