Estuar Suero is a 17-year-old outfield prospect who was just traded from the San Diego Padres to the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of the Rich Hill deal at the trade deadline. While Suero is still very young and raw, he has some intriguing tools that make him a player to watch in the Pirates’ system.

Scouting Report

At 6’5″ and 180 lbs, Suero has a projectable frame that should fill out as he matures physically. He’s a switch-hitter who shows plus raw power from both sides of the plate. He’s also a plus runner capable of impacting the game on the basepaths. Defensively, he profiles best in a corner outfield spot where his speed and arm strength play up.

Performance

In two minor league seasons, Suero has a .234/.327/.371 slash line with 11 home runs and 42 stolen bases in 329 at-bats. He’s demonstrated the ability to draw walks at a decent clip (10.8% BB rate) but does have swing and miss to his game (30.6% K rate this season). He was one of the younger players in the Dominican Summer League last year, producing a 103 wRC+.

Projection

Suero is the classic high risk/high reward teenage prospect. The tools are evident but he’ll need to refine his approach and make consistent contact to tap into his potential. He’s still 3-4 years away from the majors but offers intriguing power/speed upside down the road. Conservatively, he projects as a fourth outfielder but the ceiling is an everyday corner guy if the hit tool progresses. He’s an interesting lottery ticket for the Pirates and a player I’ll be monitoring closely.

Draft Profile

  • Power: 55
  • Hit: 45
  • Speed: 60
  • Field: 50
  • Arm: 55
  • ETA: 2026

In summary, Estuar Suero is an exciting young outfield talent with loud tools and plenty of projection remaining. The Pirates landed an intriguing prospect who could develop into an impactful big leaguer if he puts it all together.
